Ball Nut Tree

Calophyllum Inophyllum

Also known as Ball Nut Tree, Oil-nut, Mastwood, Beach Calophyllum or Beautyleaf, The Calophyllum Inophyllum is a beautiful, large but slow growing ever green tree. It is used as a shade tree, for it's wood in traditional ship building, Tamanu Oil is made from the golf ball sized seeds and is used for it's wound healing and anti- ageing properties amongst other uses.

Full sun/ Part shade

Soil Conditions

Usually found in Coastal areas, however it is forgiving in what soil it is in and can do well in poor soil. 

Water Requirements

Quite a thirsty tree, It is usually found near a water source or where a water table can be reached by roots.
